2026 has been a year of really big releases, both for Xbox Game Studios as well as generally across the industry. Microsoft recently released Forza Horizon 6 to critical acclaim and has been a huge success early. We also have Halo: Combat Evolved coming, as well as Gears of War: E-Day. Fable was also in the lineup for 2026 but Microsoft has made the decision to push it until February 2027. They made this decision to give Fable the best possible chance at success and so that it can have its own moment. If they had gone through with the decision to release it Holiday 2026 that would have put it in competition with Grand Theft Auto VI, which would not have been a smart move.
Fans have been looking forward to returning to Albion for quite a long time now, so a few more months won’t matter much. Especially if this additional time gives the team at Playground Games more opportunity to polish and really make the game shine at release.
With this Fable reboot, players will be the first Hero in a generation. The world of Albion is filled with peculiar characters, dark humor, and, of course, chickens. Players will get to customize their hero’s appearance and decide how to engage in combat. Beyond the combat is a world where you can get rich as a landlord, fall in love with a villager and start a family, and watch your reputation grow (or fall) depending on your choices and actions.
