The hits keep on coming for gamers, and this time, it is Valve hitting fans with a massive price increase. After being out of stock for quite a while, the Steam Deck is now available for purchase once again, however, it is substantially more expensive than it has been in the past. Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo have all announced price increases in the recent past, but those seem small compared to what Valve is doing here. The 512GB OLED Steam Deck used to cost $549, while the 1TB OLED Steam Deck would cost people $649. Those are already high prices but wait until you see what the prices are now.
512GB OLED Steam Deck
- $789 (USD)
- $1,129 (CAD)
- $779 (EUR)
- $649 (GBP)
- $1,199 (AUD)
- $3,279 (PLN)
1TB OLED Steam Deck
- $949 (USD)
- $1,349 (CAD)
- $919 (EUR)
- $779 (GBP)
- $1,429 (AUD)
- 3,879 (PLN)
Yep, that is a $300 dollar increase on the 1TB OLED model in the United States, which is actually insane. Other territories are getting hit just as hard as well, if not harder.
Valve says this is due to “rising memory and storage costs.” It is well known that prices have been soaring for a while now due to global events, tariffs, and other factors. Valve also stated the following:
“These new prices reflect the current state of component costs and other global logistical challenges across the industry as a whole.”
While there are a lot of challenges facing the industry right now due to the aforementioned factors, this is the worst price increase yet, by a lot.
Gaming is quickly becoming a hobby that is inaccessible to many people due to these costs. One has to think this bodes really badly for the upcoming Steam Machine.
What do you think about this new price? Do you already have a Steam Deck? If not, do you still plan on getting one in the future? Tell us what you think on Bluesky and Twitter.
