NACON and Spiders Studio have released a new video unveiling more information about the creative process behind the narrative RPG GreedFall II: The Dying World. This video delves into the design process of Yecht Fradí, the fictional language of the natives of Teer Fradee, through an interview with Antoine Henry, the language’s co-creator. Currently available in Early Access on Steam, GreedFall II: The Dying World will be released in its final version on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X in 2026.
Creating a language fitting the world of GreedFall: Yecht Fradí
Yecht Fradí is the language spoken by the natives of the island of Teer Fradee. Created by Antoine Henry, linguist and designer of fictional languages, and Jehanne Rousseau, Greedfall Creative Director and co-founder of Spiders, this language is inspired by Proto-Celtic and (its descendants, Old Irish, Old Welsh, Old Breton, and Gaulish). Although the original idea was to use a real ancient language, it was quickly decided to create a fictional dialect better suited to the game’s needs and tofully showcase the identity and culture of the inhabitants of Teer Fradee, while drawing on the roots of Proto-Celtic.

Yecht Fradí was already present in the first GreedFall, but it plays a much more central role in GreedFall II: The Dying World, as players take on the role of a native of Teer Fradee. Designing a credible and realistic language was therefore crucial to ensuring player immersion and accompanying them throughout their adventure.
“The inhabitants of Teer Fradee live in harmony with nature, which is very evident in their culture.” says Antoine Henry. “This is also reflected in their language, particularly in their idiomatic expressions and interjections. For example, the greeting “Beurd tír to mad”, which means “May the Earth bear you well”, or the exclamation “Nod fradí!”, which could be translated as “Holy sap!”. Creating a fictional language is an exciting challenge, as it requires anticipating the elements that structure and characterise the people who speak it. And of course, the challenge is even greater because, as it is a video game, the elocution and phonetics of the language also have to be perfected. Thus, I worked closely with the voice actors, who had to learn to master the subtleties of this language in preparation for the recording sessions.”

GreedFall II: The Dying World is a narrative RPG that starts three years before the events of the first game. This time, you play as a native of Teer Fradee, uprooted by force from your island and taken to the continent of Gacane, the homeland of the renaigsa (‘foreigners’ in Yecht Fradí). In this old world, in a constant state of conflict and ravaged by the Malichor plague and by the political scheming of various factions, you must regain your freedom and forge your own destiny. Tackle each challenge you face through diplomacy, cunning, or your combat skills, and alongside your newfound allies, put an end to the dark schemes that threaten the continent and your island.
GreedFall II: The Dying World is currently in early access on PC (Steam) and will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2026, when the game fully exits early access.
