Rural Cat Trails, a laid-back adventure game where you play as a cat in rural Japan, has just been officially announced at the Cozy Games Awards Showcase.
Explore the Japanese countryside as a cat during cherry blossom season. Wall Jump, Dig, Paw Swat, and Wiggle Butt Dash your way through Nanoha Town to reach Sakurana Shrine, a place your late Grandpa held dear.
This adorable indie game is being developed by Japanese couple known as Hibikai Games and published by Future Friends Games (CloverPit, SUMMERHOUSE, Europa), and will be coming to Steam in late 2026. Hibikai Games is a Japanese husband-and-wife indie development team with experience developing console games. They’re working on their first game together while living with their cat in Tokyo.
About the Game

Rural Cat Trails is a laid-back adventure game about exploration, curiosity, and the unhurried joy of being a cat. It’s a gentle, nostalgic vision of rural Japan that combines 2D pixel art characters with beautifully rendered 3D environments. Take your time, sniff around, and enjoy the ride.
Key Features:
- Cat Agility: Wall jump, dig, paw swat, wiggle butt dash and squeeze through tight gaps
- Collect Cat Food Cans: Cans boost stamina, chain wall jumps, and make you dash further.
