ININ has announced the relaunch of R-Type Dimensions III with the release of its third major patch, alongside a significant new addition: the digital artbook, previously available exclusively as part of the Ultimate Edition on Steam, will now be included in the base game at no additional cost across all platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Steam.

When ININ published its improvement initiative in June, the company issued a public commitment to address community concerns through a series of targeted updates and a strengthened quality assurance process. Three months later, that work is reflected in the product players have in their hands today.

Patches 1 and 2 addressed a broad range of gameplay, collision, audio, and visual issues, with a deliberate focus on mechanical authenticity, bringing the experience closer to the original R-Type III: The Third Lightning. Patch 3 continues that work with a comprehensive overhaul of Advanced Mode boss behavior, further refinements to core gameplay systems, and a range of stability and visual corrections.

Advanced Mode Boss Overhaul

The most substantial gameplay addition in Patch 3 is a comprehensive rework of Stage 5 and Stage 6 boss behavior in Advanced Mode, designed to more accurately reflect the challenge and pattern design of the original game.

Stage 5 bosses have been returned across shot patterns, movement, and speed. Stage 6’s Mother Bydo has received updates across all phases, including dynamic arm duration that now scales based on player performance, replacing the previous fixed timer.

Digital Artbook – Now Free for All Players

The R-Type Dimensions III digital artbook, previously sold as part of the Ultimate Editions on Steam, is now included in the base game across all platforms at no additional cost. The artbook features artwork and historical context exploring the legacy of the R-Type franchise. The base price of R-Type Dimensions III remains unchanged.

A Note on the Community

The past three months have been shaped in no small part by the R-Type community. Players who documented issues, tested builds, participated in the feedback process, and held ININ accountable have directly shaped the game today. That level of engagement, critical, knowledgeable, and consistent, has made a measurable difference in the many improvements, according to ININ.

ININ has extended its thanks to every player who took the time to report, discuss, and follow the progress of these updates.

R-Type Dimensions III is available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, XBOX, and Steam. Patch 3 is available now on Steam, PS5, and Xbox, with Switch versions to follow within the day once platform-specific certification is complete.
