Ubisoft has just released a video about the final content update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and it includes some news that fans will be excited about. Not only is there new story content coming in the June 16, 2026, update, but there is also a new mode, new “live events” that will take place, and more, all available for free.
This final free story drop will include “Black Tides” and will be the closing chapter in the stories of Naoe and Yasuke. The video also teases the appearance of someone from a previous Assassin’s Creed game, but we won’t spoil who that is here. Be warned, though, about spoilers in this video.
This new content will be free to download and play; however, there is a catch. You will need to complete the main stories for both Naoe and Yasuke before you can play the “Black Tides” content. Additionally, you will need to complete the two previous free story drops, which are “A Critical Encounter” and “A Puzzlement”. Please also note that Claws of Awaji is not needed for the “Black Tides” content.
If you are someone who doesn’t care about the story (or you need something else to do once you finish it), they also revealed Domains. This is a brand new animus activity for hardcore RPG players. This includes five new gameplay arenas with ten different difficulty options. The way the difficulty is going to work is that the harder the difficulty, the more gameplay modifiers there will be. For example, one of the modifiers shown in the video is “Inferno.” With this modifier, the domain contains patches of fiery ground, which can apply fire buildup to your character. Another is “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” in which the domain boss has extra abilities. Each domain presents new challenges, so your approach and strategy must constantly evolve.
This new mode also has its own merchant and currency. With this new in-game currency, players can purchase new gear sets, new engravings, weapons, and more. None of these items (or the rewards you can earn in this mode) will ever be available in the traditional in-game store. These rewards will be bragging points for those who survive the difficulty, with items and weapons from earlier games in the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Finally, Ubisoft revealed two new live projects that will be arriving as well. Among other things, these will feature legacy outfits, such as some that might be found in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. These two live projects will also be playable in both Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. This means that while you can wear some Assassin’s Creed Black Flag items in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you can also wear some items from Feudal Japan in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced as well. This also means that if you play these live projects in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you can work on earning rewards for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced before it is even out.
It seems like this new content update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows has a lot of content and the best part is that it is available for free. Take a look at the video and then tell us what you think on Bluesky and Twitter. Will you play this new content in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Will you pick up Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced when it arrives in July?
