Day of the Devs at Summer Game Fest provided a glimpse into the diverse developers behind Prove You’re Human, the first-person narrative adventure about convincing an AI it’s not human from Peabody award-winning 1000xRESIST developer sunset visitor 斜陽過客 and Black Tabby Publishing. 

In this new video, hear from narrative designer Pinki Li and artist Daniel Beaulieu on the creation of Mesa, the A.I. at the center of Prove You’re Human. What served as their inspiration? How did they animate the distinctive look of her face? How did they integrate the writing, animation, and programming to bring Mesa to life…all to task players with dispelling her of these illusions?

Additionally, the Southeast Asian Games Showcase on Saturday, June 6, featured a further look at the team at sunset visitor 斜陽過客, and the Southeast Asian influences on Prove You’re Human.

Producer and actor Nhi Do (voice of Watcher in 1000xRESIST) spotlighted her Vietnamese background as a first-generation Canadian immigrant, illuminating the intertwining influences that shape Prove You’re Human’s themes of identity, family, and environmental effects.

Pinki Li spoke to the confluence of culture informing her identity as a Canadian with Malaysian roots. See how her nostalgic memories helped construct Pinki’s grasp of the world, and get a glimpse into how these self-reflective discoveries inform the identity of Prove You’re Human’s Southeast Asian protagonist.

“Prove You’re Human asks players to split in two, to handle both physical and digital duties,” says Remy Siu, Founder of sunset visitor 斜陽過客. “This duality is echoed throughout the game, but also drives our approach to development. Our team is made up of artists in all their forms: dancers, musicians, filmmakers, and more. We explore them all as expressions of our own lived experiences to create a real human connection between our realities, and celebrate the differences bridging us together.”
