After a lot of speculation, the rumors turned out to be true. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is coming this October. Developed by Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare 4 is set in a rapidly escalating global conflict centered on the Korean Peninsula. Players will fight as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier thrust into a full-scale North Korean invasion, while beyond the front lines, operator-turned-outlaw Captain Price works outside the system he once served in pursuit of a weapon that threatens to plunge the world into catastrophe. The campaign takes players around the world, from close-quarters combat in New York and thrilling car chases through Paris to SAS night raids in Mumbai and, of course, trench warfare in Korea.
Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer Offers New Innovation
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer delivers grounded, precise combat, built around fluid movement that provides greater control than ever before. Multiplayer introduces Ballistic Authority, a new weapons-first innovation that brings the most authentic Modern Warfare gunplay yet. Modern Warfare 4 will launch with 12 Core maps, spanning visually distinct locations around the world, plus Kill Block, a new, dynamic battleground that reconfigures its layout between rounds, with more than 500 configurations.

Diving into Ballistic Authority a bit more, this is about every shot leaving no doubt. It unifies precision aiming, physical handling, realistic audio propagation, enhanced visibility, and smarter combat perception. Some other details include:
- Bloom has been removed, making hipfire shots feel more direct, predictable, and connected to where the weapon is pointed.
- Recoil, convergence, and weapon handling have been rebuilt to more directly reflect player input.
- Depth of field and visual effects have been refined to improve enemy visibility without sacrificing authenticity.
- Weapons respond more naturally to player movement, stance changes, and the environment, creating more consistent behavior in every engagement.
DMZ Extraction Mode Returns
DMZ also returns as the definitive Call of Duty extraction experience, dropping solo players and squads into a shifting combat zone where every deployment plays out differently. Additional details for DMZ will drop on June 7, presumably at the Xbox Games Showcase.

Grounded Movement
Infinity Ward also promises the movement in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will remain grounded. It is built around fluidity, control, and player freedom. This has been designed to support different playstyles. Further details include:
- Traversal, combat movement, and gunplay transitions are designed to feel seamless and responsive, preserving momentum while maintaining control under pressure.
- Expanded movement options for Mantling, Climbing, Hanging and Jumping create new opportunities to reposition, flank, navigate vertical spaces, and approach engagements from multiple angles across increasingly dynamic combat environments.
- Every movement system is designed to preserve the grounded realism, physicality, and combat intensity that define Modern Warfare while delivering the fluid, cinematic intensity of operating as an elite soldier in the field, whether you prefer a methodical, tactical approach or aggressive plays.

A New Home
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, PC, and for the first time ever, Nintendo Switch 2. It will not be available on Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Pre-orders are available right now on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. It will be available for pre-order on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.
Modern Warfare 4 is built with a renewed focus on PC players, with Infinity Ward and Beenox partnering to give more control over performance, visual fidelity, responsiveness, and customization on PC.

Warzone Update
Beginning on September 1, Call of Duty: Warzone will begin integrating Modern Warfare 4 content and seasonal progression between both games. As a result, Call of Duty: Warzone will no longer be playable on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 starting with Season 1, which arrives shortly after the Modern Warfare 4 launch on October 23, 2026. On June 25th, the in-game store for Call of Duty: Warzone on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be removed. With that said, players will still be able to progress through the free battle tiers, including unlocking new weapons remaining in Black Ops 7 seasons.
More information will be revealed about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 in June (presumably at the Xbox Games Showcase) and later this year leading up to the launch on October 23, 2026.
